John Rich recently called on Florida leaders to consider honoring John Anderson with the song he wrote about home.
In a post on October 22, Rich said Anderson captured the spirit of the state and noted that he was born in Apopka. Anderson’s 1992 title track is often associated with themes about the Everglades.

Rich also said he would be willing to travel to Florida in support of the idea. If state officials ever took it up, the song could be considered as a replacement for “Old Folks at Home,” which has been Florida’s state song since 1935.
So far, there has been no public response from Governor Ron DeSantis, though some fans have reportedly started petitions supporting the idea.
