Ellen DeGeneres Pays Tribute to Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss on First Anniversary of His Death

“I miss him every single day,” Ellen DeGeneres shared in a heartfelt video as she remembered her dear friend Stephen “tWitch” Boss on the first anniversary of his passing.

On Wednesday, the former daytime host posted a tribute clip on Instagram, reflecting on her bond with tWitch and recalling some of their happiest moments together—including one of the last trips they ever shared.

tWitch, a beloved dancer and DJ on The Ellen DeGeneres Show from 2014 until its finale in May 2022, died at age 40 on December 13, 2022.

“On this one-year mark of tWitch not being here, I wanted to share a few memories. Honestly, I have so many,” Ellen said. “Every day after the show, we would dance and sing to some song, and without fail, we’d make each other laugh. Then we’d walk arm in arm to my dressing room—the first one in the hall. I’d tell him, ‘I love you,’ and he’d say, ‘Love you much.’ That was our ritual. I miss that so much.”

She also reminisced about a fun trip to Las Vegas to see Silk Sonic. “We went to Vegas, one of the last trips we took. We were both huge fans, and being there together, singing along and having that experience, it was just pure joy.”

Another standout memory for Ellen was a getaway to Miraval with tWitch and her longtime producer Andy Lassner. “It was hilarious. The three of us together was nonstop fun. And tWitch, even though he was nervous, climbed up that pole and stood there—it was incredible. Then Andy had to follow him up. That shoot was one of the funniest and most memorable things we did, and it ended up being one of our last trips.”

As the video continued, Ellen became emotional speaking about his sudden death and his hidden struggle with mental health. “His memory lives on. I love him so much, and I miss him every single day. It’s a reminder that we never really know what battles someone is facing. He was such a happy presence, or so I thought. I was very close to him, but he never shared his struggles. That’s heartbreaking, because we all would have done anything to help him.”

On the same day, tWitch’s mother, Connie Boss Alexander, honored her son with a moving video montage on Instagram. She wrote:
“A year ago today… you sent your last I love you’s, your final check-ins, and then closed your eyes here and opened them among the ancestors in God’s presence. My firstborn, my heartbeat, my Booboo—I miss you beyond words and love you for eternity.”
